Land Rover’s 2025 Electrification Strategy: A Look Ahead
June 03 2025, 360.Agency

While plug-in hybrids are not offered across every model in Land Rover’s current lineup, the brand remains committed to electrifying its future. The 2025 model year represents a transition point as Land Rover expands its mild hybrid offerings and prepares for a new generation of fully electric models beginning in 2026.
Electrification Without Compromising Performance
Land Rover’s current approach to electrification focuses on mild hybrid systems paired with turbocharged six-cylinder engines. These systems capture braking energy and use it to assist acceleration, reduce emissions, and improve efficiency, without impacting towing capacity or off-road performance.
This mild hybrid technology is already standard on several models, including the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Defender P400, and Discovery. It delivers smoother power delivery, improved stop-start performance, and enhanced responsiveness in all driving conditions.
EV Models on the Horizon
Land Rover’s upcoming fully electric Range Rover is expected to debut in the near future, built on the new MLA (Modular Longitudinal Architecture) platform. This platform will support extended range, rapid charging, and true off-road readiness, setting a new standard for luxury EV capability.
While plug-in hybrid versions are currently offered in select international markets, Land Rover is clearly aligning its Canadian lineup with a strategy focused on EV adoption and mild hybrid efficiency in the short term, without sacrificing its legendary go-anywhere performance.
